Below are some questions which I'm often asked by clients prior to the first session,
which may hopefully answer some of the questions or concerns that you may be
having right now if you are considering Counselling/Psychotherapy….
A: We will agree a day and time to meet each week. Therapy is most effective when
undertaken on a regular basis for an agreed period of time. Usually we would agree
to work together for an initial 6 weeks, with a review after the 4th week. Thereafter,
therapy can be open-ended.

A: Anything at all! This is your time. It is important that you know you have a space
where you can come along and ‘off-load’ and everything you say will be kept
confidential.**

instance, full discussion between us would take place.
A: Counselling tends to look at a particular issue that may be causing a problem in
your life at the moment and generally tends to be short-term work, approximately
6-8 sessions.
Psychotherapy is a more in-depth exploration of your thoughts and feelings and how
you understand and make sense of yourself based on your experiences.
A: Usually, the first session is a chance for us to meet each other and get a sense
of whether we are able to work together. I will ask you some basic background
questions to help me to understand the nature of your concerns. You will have the
opportunity to talk about the issues that are bothering you and discuss what you
would like to get out of therapy, as well as ask any questions that you need to know
about the therapy process. At the end of the first session, you are likely to know
whether counselling is right for you and indeed, whether I am the right person to help
you.
Often one’s first counselling experience can be rather daunting, and it can be
difficult to know quite what to expect from that first session.
